New Updates for the 2018 Durango

The Dodge Durango has continued to be a family-friendly SUV. The SUV has a few new minor updates for the 2018 model year. Dodge has gotten rid of the standard 5-inch infotainment display and now all vehicles come standard with a 7-inch infotainment display. A larger screen of 8.4-inches is available as well and this infotainment system has integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with it.

Inside, all models have a sport steering wheel with paddle shifters and a new gearshift lever. The standard 5.0-inch infotainment display is abandoned in favor of a larger 7.0-inch unit; the optional 8.4-inch infotainment system remains and now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Three Generations of the Dodge Durango

The Dodge Durango started production in 1997 and today's Durango is the third generation of the Dodge Durango. The first generation started with the 1998 model year and has been popular for families since then. The Durango stood out from the mid-size SUV class by seating up to eight passengers, which was more than the average mid-size SUV at the time. The engine and towing capabilities proved it is a SUV that can compete with rugged, sturdy trucks.

The second generation started with the 2004 model year. This generation redesigned the Durango, making it taller, wider, and longer and changed the suspension to a new coil-spring suspension. The second-generation Durango halted production and discontinued after the 2009 model year.

Though the Durango was discontinued, Dodge released a website with teaser pictures of the third-generation Dodge Durango in 2010. Upgrades from the previous generation included new engines and safety features. Since the revival of the Durango, the third generation has increased sales overall and satisfied drivers for its spacious interior and its performance for an SUV.
